In
1996, Harmony Foundation created Youth Vision to provide
opportunities for young people to gain life and work skills
through community service. Harmony Foundation has successfully
run three youth projects: Improv-Eco (1996), Youth
Ecommunity (1997), and Youth Vision in Action
(1998) and advised many more. Our guidebook for community
youth programs entitled Strengthening Our Communities
summarizes the knowledge and experience gained
through these programs and has been widely used by others
to organize their own programs.
All programs shared a common theme of providing young people
with work and life skills, gaining practical experience
while making a difference in their communities. Participants
also broadened their knowledge of environment and development
issues through training and hands-on activities. Community
service work promoted youth involvement in local initiatives
and helped others to better understand the issues that young
people face, while mentoring activities provided participants
with an opportunity to explore potential career paths.
Harmony Foundation is proud of its accomplishments in providing
youth with valuable skills and opportunities to work with
and for their communities. We continue to make youth participation
a priority, creating opportunities for young people and
training future leaders. Youth Vision is central to that
effort.
